5 Ways to Spot a Fake Stanley Cup
1. Inspect the Logo
The Stanley Cup's logo is sharp and well-defined. Counterfeit cups often have blurry or distorted logos, so examine the logo carefully.
2. Check for Misspellings
Fakes may contain spelling errors in the names or dates engraved on the cup. Carefully compare the spelling to official sources.
3. Measure the Handle
The top handle of a real Stanley Cup is approximately 1mm from the metal ring. Fake cups may have handles that are significantly higher.
4. Test for Lead
Rub your finger on the inside of the cup. If a black smudge appears, it may indicate the presence of lead, which is not found in genuine Stanley Cups.
5. Consider the Temperature
Stanley Cups are able to retain ice for several hours. Counterfeit cups may not be insulated as effectively and may melt ice more quickly.
